AP MUSIC THEORY SUMMER WORK
This page provides a guide to your summer work, dates when answer keys will be posted, and other information as the summer progresses and the school year begins.
***Prepare to be tested on this material in the first week of school!***
***PRACTICE TEST (3 PARTS) with answer key AVAILABLE NOW -- CLICK HERE!!!***

AP Music Theory summer work has two components:

A) ONLINE LESSONS AND TRAINERS.  Most Musictheory.net lessons and trainers (and all good-ear.com trainers) require the sound on your computer to be ON!  Do the trainers listed for a particular chapter before going on to...
B) PRINTED PACKETS ORGANIZED BY TEXTBOOK CHAPTER/TOPIC.  Answer keys will go online at the website (http://www.andrewpfaff.com/BCTHSmusic/ap_theory) one week after the suggested start time for each chapter segment.  They will be password protected.  Your user ID will be your first name and the password will be your last name (case sensitive).
Summer work packets are available here as .pdf files if you do not have hard copies.

You are strongly urged to watch each lesson and work with the trainers even if you feel you know the particular concept already.  If you want to be successful in AP Music Theory you must have all of the basics down cold -- no hesitation in answering.  Everything we will do in the course depends on a solid foundation.  DO YOU HAVE A SOLID FOUNDATION?

The chapter headings correspond to the topics covered in chapters 1-7 of The Musician's Guide to Theory and Analysis.  That's our textbook for the school year.

If the summer work packets and supporting online materials do not provide enough practice for you to be comfortable with the subject matter, I recommend Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory by Andrew Surmani, Karen Farnum Surmani, and Morton Manus.  It can be purchased at Sam Ash Music, through Amazon.com, or from several other vendors.

Do not hesitate to email me at andpfa@bergen.org if you have any questions about anything.  Especially if you have problems accessing materials online -- let me know right away!  I check my mail frequently.  Don't be shy about bothering me.  I am very interested in helping you do well on this material.  If you complete a section before I have an answer key up, email me and I will send you a link to the key.

Prepare to be tested on this material in the first week of school.
